H43 Team Nobby improves despite setbacks in Valencia

The H43 Team Nobby riders went from strength to strength throughout the weekend and managed to change the team’s dynamic from Estoril

The Moto2 European Championship landed in Valencia for the second round of the FIM CEV Repsol. H43 Team Nobby arrived at the Circuit Ricardo Tormo looking to improve the results obtained in the last race in Portugal, where bad luck prevented them from having a good start to the season.

After Nicolas Czyba’s injury in Estoril, Simon Jespersen was the rider chosen to replace the German. In addition, this weekend H43 Team Nobby had a new member in the box: In collaboration with the Pakosta37 Riders Factory school and the Sima Mayan Racing team, Mexican rider Guillermo Moreno had the technical support of H43 Team Nobby.

The weekend did not start in the best possible way for the team with an electronic problem that the team was able to solve after a lot of work in the box. FP1 was the highlight session for the team on Friday, with Simon Jespersen setting his fastest lap with a time of 1:39.613. Guillermo Moreno, meanwhile, also set his fastest time of the free practice session in FP1 with a 1:40.217.

Saturday’s qualifying day was marked by bad luck for Simon Jespersen with a crash at the start of QP1. Thanks to the good work of the mechanics, the Danish rider managed to get out on track and improve his lap time from Friday’s practice, with a time of 1:39.225, which allowed him to finish sixth in qualifying. Guillermo Moreno improved compared to the free practice sessions and set a good race pace with a best lap of 1:40.875. This time allowed the Mexican rider to finish ninth on the starting grid.

Race day was marked by an accident which caused a red flag. Before the red flag, Simon Jespersen managed to move into the leading positions and Guillermo also moved up one position. The race was restarted with nine laps to go and the H43 Team Nobby riders continued in the same dynamic as in the first part of the race. In the end, Simon Jespersen was just off the podium with fourth place and Guillermo Moreno finished sixth.

Guillermo Moreno: “I felt very good working with the team and the bike. Every day we have improved more and more, I have felt more comfortable, I have never been stuck and I have always been improving my times. In general, I felt very comfortable with the bike, with the team and I really liked the circuit”.

Simon Jespersen“My weekend was complicated. We started with testing new suspension, it was a little bit difficult to find the best feeling with it at the beginning, we worked a lot to get it right and we had good support from the brand, they helped us a lot. At the end of the weekend we found a better feeling and we were able to do decent lap times, not good enough compared to my times last year, but in this championship I had to ride on tyres that are new to me. In the end we took this race as a good training for Navarra, we tried a lot of things and I learnt a lot, both about the bike and myself, so overall I’m happy”.

Manuel Hernández“Simon and Guillermo’s weekend was totally different, because with Simon we came here to put in the kilometres with him, because we hadn’t ridden since Jerez due to the fact that the team has a long calendar in many championships. Looking at it this way, we don’t care much about the position, although it’s true that we always want to be competitive. We were able to solve some electronic problems we had, we tried other electronic configurations because here we use different tyres than we are used to. Overall, it has been a positive weekend, it has been a great job ahead of the Navarre ESBK race. As for Guillermo, he has been evolving day by day, the first part of the race was very good because he managed to get into the group with a very good pace. The second part of the race was a bit more difficult for him, but he has gained experience throughout the weekend”.

H43 Team Nobby continues to struggle in the Moto2 European Championship and Simon Jespersen is eleventh with thirteen points. The next race will be at the Circuit Barcelona-Catalunya on the weekend of June 16th.
