Luck eludes H43 Team Nobby in Estoril

Nicolas Czyba suffers a broken wrist when he had qualified fifth on the grid in his category and Marcos Ludeña failed to qualify for the European Talent Cup races

H43 Team Nobby has not been able to complete its desired start to the season in the first race of the FIM CEV Repsol in 2021, as Nicolas Czyba has injured himself in the final part of the qualifying practice of the Superstock 600 category and Marcos Ludeña has failed to qualify for the Hawkers European Talent Cup races in Estoril (Portugal).

Nicolas Czyba and H43 Team Nobby are fighting again this season for the Superstock 600 title. The German rider, arriving after a short preseason for the first round of the season, had qualified in fourth place in his category after the first qualifying session held on the Portuguese track. Czyba’s feelings were good, since he had managed to improve his times by more than a second.

In the second session he continued to improve his lap time until, on the last lap, he suffered a hard fall in which he injured his wrist. Despite the crash, Nicolas Czyba had secured fifth position on the grid in his category and was just a few tenths behind third, with options to fight for the podium in both races today. Unfortunately, the German rider has been unable to race in Estoril, but he is already thinking about his return to racing.

Nicolas Czyba“The first qualifying session went quite well for us, I was fourth, with a good time and riding a second faster than last year. In the second session I managed to go faster and improve some corners that I didn’t like or that I hadn’t done very well during the morning. I had improved 1.5 seconds, but on the last lap I fell and injured myself. It is the end of this weekend, I will try to come back with strength in the Barcelona race and take a step forward.”

Manuel Hernández (team manager)“Nicolas has surprised us after the short preseason we have had with him: he has improved last year’s records by more than a second and with only one dry day. He was doing quite well; he could have fought for the podium in his category in both races because he had a good pace. These are things that happen, he was very comfortable and the suspension was working very well. We are working with him to make a big leap, we hope to see him back on the track soon.”

One step away from qualifying in the European Talent Cup

The H43 Team Nobby makes its debut this season at the Hawkers European Talent Cup with Marcos Ludeña, but will have to wait for the next FIM CEV round to be able to compete in the race as the 12-year-old rider could not qualify for Sunday’s races in Portugal. In the first round of the competition, 49 riders registered but only 38 of them could take part in the races.

Marcos Ludeña competed in the group A qualifying sessions, with 24 other rivals, and finished in the twenty-third position of the group. There was still an opportunity, in the ‘last chance’ race, in which Ludeña was constant and rode with the second group, but it was not enough to enter the final grid of the category as he finished seventh (only the first four qualified for the race).

Marcos Ludeña“It was a difficult weekend because I did not know the circuit and the forecast was for rain. We have been improving every day and the sensations were good. The qualifying sessions have been difficult: we have improved the times more and more, but the level is very high and we were unable to qualify. The ‘last chance’ race went quite well, but in the end we couldn’t get a place for the race.”

Manuel Hernández (team manager)“We have high expectations with Marcos Ludeña, but after this first race, we have seen that the level is very high and we will have to work a lot more. We are going to try to continue forward and put everything in the right direction for Valencia to try to keep improving.”

The next appointment for the FIM CEV Repsol riders is the weekend of May, 9 at the Circuit Ricardo Tormo.
